Produce Buyer
Job Summary
Purchase, price and promote designated products to meet objectives for sales, margin and inventory turns, to keep designated sections fully stocked and to provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service. Produce buyer is responsible for all produce.
Essential functions:
1. Customer Service responsibilities.
2. Purchasing.
3. Product maintenance.
4. Merchandising.
5. Department Maintenance.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Participate in setting sales, margin and inventory turns goals for department.
2. Review department financial reports with Purchasing and Inventory Manager and take corrective action as needed.
3. Answer and route calls, take and route messages as needed.
4. Attend department and store meetings.
5. Perform other tasks assigned by Purchasing and Inventory Manager.
Qualifications:
· Experience in retail produce.
· Knowledge of organic and commercial growing practices, and organic certification regulations.
· Firm grasp of margin pricing.
· Communications skills--good listener, clear instructions.
· Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
· Regular, predictable attendance.
· Ability to lift 50 lbs.
· Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
