Here is a letter from Aldo, the founder of Traveling Mercies!

"Hi Friends,

The Syokitumbi Community and Farmers
Self Help Project is progressing very nicely.
Many people now have clean water and are growing food. Your support in continuing the project
will be of great assistance. We are planning to install a second
water well, additional solar panels, and more water lines to
added villages; as well as other community improvements.

Please join the efforts of our local friends at Kimberton
Whole
Foods in Kimberton, PA in providing needed donations
to fund these very important projects.

Also, I would like to share with you the recent news article
in the Daily Local News
, and the fund raising flyer being used
by Kimberton Whole Foods.

Thank you, and many blessings to you and your families
for a healthy and peaceful New Year.

Peace,
Aldo"

It's Flu Season!
Written by Administrator Tuesday, 15 January 2013 12:09

It's the time of year when germs crawl everywhere and kids sniffle and adults cough.  It's flu season! But the flu doesn't have to control you this year.  Our apothecary ladies have great input for us:

Regina from Downingtown says, "For prepping for flu season, I start taking my Gaia (brand name) Elderberry syrup! I also amp up my probiotic to a stronger formula to ensure my immune system stays strong!"

Courtney from Downingtown says, "I'd say don't stress about getting sick! Stay away from the flu shot and increase the amount of cruciferous veggies you're eating."

Kris from Ottsville says, "Come this time of year I find the best way to start with is what my G'ma always said...plenty of sleep, wash your hands a lot and load up on vit. C. I try to start the day with a green smoothie with big scoop of health force Vit C. If I feel anything coming on I zap it with silver, everyday spray and maybe some Astragalus. There you have my personal flu fighting report."

Vivian from Douglassville says,"Elderberry ongoing, start now. Oscillococcinum at the on set. Plenty of rest, plenty of garlic, water, proper diet & wash hands."

Nora from Ottsville says, "I take 10,000 Vit D3 , at least 1000 Vit C and increase if needed.  I always have a fresh date packet of 3 dose Oscillo WITH me and also @ home so that I can take it at the first sign of FLU."

Hannah from Kimberton says, "Each morning with my breakfast I mix 1 tsp. of Gaia Herbs Elderberry Syrup with Natren Probiotic powder to enhance my immunity. I also take a spoonful of Green Pasture's Fermented Cod Liver Oil (natrually rich in vitamins A & D) as well as one serving of MegaFoods or Healthforce Nutritionals Vitamin C. All of these are safe for pregnant women and children.
I also highly recommend medicinal mushrooms on a daily basis. The best brands we carry are Fungi Perfecti My Community or New Chapter Lifeshield Immunity. One last favorite would be Urban Moonshine's Immune Tonic that combines Elderberry and Reishi Mushroom with Astragalus root. This rockin' combination from a small independent company is perfect for building long-term immunity and keeping the bugs at bay."

Kimberton Whole Foods Proudly Presents the Traveling Mercies Donation Drive

About Traveling Mercies:

Two years ago the generosity of the community members of Kimberton and Kimberton Whole Foods greatly impacted Traveling Mercies’ ability to fund a project known as Syokithumbi Community and Farmers Self Help Association, in SE Kenya in the Kitui West District.  Traveling Mercies Director, Aldo Magazzeni, is directly responsible for this project with his partners in Kitui.

With your support, Phase I of the project has accomplished:

  • Installation and approval of a well
  • A solar panel system that operates the well pump and several lights
  • A storage building & a community meeting building
  • Several water storage tanks
  • Two greenhouses
  • Drip irrigation piping & water pipes to a number of small villages
  • Two large fishponds to raise tilapia

To continue to allow these communities to own their own future, the next phase of the program includes:

  • Expanding farming & fish raising
  • Installation of solar power for lighting
  • More piping & water storage
  • A second well as more village members join the co-op
  • A market to sell product & fish run by community women

Hopefully our community here can assist Traveling Mercies and the Syokithumbi Community and Farmers Self Help Association to continue in making this truly a healthy and independent project for the good people of Kitui.

How to Donate:

1) Ask a Kimberton Whole Foods cashier to add your donation directly to your grocery bill when checking out.
