An Introduction to CBD Oil

CBD Oil has been steadily gaining in popularity, and for good reason! This safe and effective remedy has become a staple supplement for many Kimberton Whole Foods customers. So, what is CBD Oil? To start, “CBD” is the acronym for Cannabidiol, a promising cannabinoid found in the hemp plant and in medical/recreational cannabis. It is the agricultural hemp plant that is used to make the CBD oils we sell on our shelves. While you’ve likely heard of THC, a psychoactive cannabinoid also found in both plants, agricultural hemp is contains less than 0.3% THC, making it non-psychoactive.

First, agricultural hemp is not a drug. Although a variety of the plant Cannabis sativa L., hemp is genetically distinct from medical/recreational cannabis, or marijuana. Hemp is a crop deeply rooted in American history, historically used in the production of fibers as well as seed-oil. At Kimberton Whole Foods, you’ll find it on our shelves in various forms, from hemp protein, to CBD oil, hemp seeds, pasta, soap, and more.

Hemp-derived CBD oil is different than hemp seed oil (a nutritional supplement derived from hemp seeds) because it is extracted from all parts of the plant, including the seeds, stems, and stalks, and contains higher concentrations of cannabinoids. CBD oil can be taken straight, or try it in a Hemp Oil Latte.

CBD can be taken internally or applied externally for pain relief and relaxation. Our friends at CV Sciences share that “with all of the stresses in life, it can be difficult to stay balanced and healthy. Our bodies have an internal system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), that produces its own cannabinoids. The ECS helps maintain homeostasis and talks to every other organ system in the body. Hemp-derived CBD has the ability to balance the system that’s designed to balance you.”*

We recommend that individuals who are required not to fail a drug test should avoid all hemp-derived products to prevent any issues with the testing. While hemp-derived CBD products will not cause any feelings of intoxication, these products may have trace amounts of THC that would influence a drug test. Please ask a team member about THC-free CBD oil products.

We carry a diverse selection of CBD products in our apothecary department. Ask one of our team members to help you navigate the many options!
