Gary Parker, co-founder of Best Beards, explains that when he and partner Jason Hertzog first decided to develop the Best Beard product line, they were committed to bringing something new and innovative to the category. Unsatisfied with the solid, waxy, chemical-based balms that saturated the market, Gary & Jay joined forces with friend and local music legend, Freeway, to create a beard cream that would solve the problem of a dry itchy beard, while also soothing and conditioning the skin beneath with high-quality, organic ingredients. Each of these three friends faced different challenges with their beards, and in a light bulb moment of inspiration they decided to develop a product that would address them all.
Thus began an intensive process of formulating and testing their product, with an uncompromising emphasis on quality. Easy application was a top priority, as was creating a formula that would soften the beard, while also providing shape and adding sheen. Jason’s proclivity toward experimentation in the kitchen extended naturally into the development of Best Beard Cream, a grass roots process that began in his home.
In the end, the Best Beard formula was perfected by blending carefully tested proportions of unrefined mango and shea butters with argan oil, coconut oil and raw beeswax, resulting in an all-natural, antioxidant-rich cream. Naturally occurring saturated fats and Omega-9 fatty acids in the butters and oils combine with Vitamins A, C, E and D, yielding a product with benefits that extend far beyond good grooming. Best Beard Cream’s formula also moisturizes dry and damaged hair, aids in the healing and regeneration of skin tissue, boasts anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, and even acts as a natural sunscreen.
Their unwavering commitment to quality has catapulted Best Beards from their humble beginnings as a small, home-based operation to their current status as an increasingly successful “micro beard company” with a loyal following. Not long after their foray into beard cream production began, Best Beards was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, and received airtime on both MTV and REVOLT TV, with glowing endorsements and rave reviews pouring in from major players in the entertainment industry.
Even in the face of rapid growth and an expanding product line, the Best Beard team’s dedication to producing a quality, handcrafted product hasn’t faltered. These days, the company is operating out of a sizable production facility that was built on Jason Hertzog’s property. Here, all of the Best Beards products are still produced, labeled and packaged by hand. In addition to selling their products online through their website, Best Beards has partnered with Barber Shops & salons, wholesale beauty vendors, and independent retailers like Kimberton Whole Foods, in order to broaden their reach and bring their products to a larger audience. All the while, as the brand continues to grow, the founders of Best Beards are committed to maintaining an intimate connection to their customers.
Since the inception of their company, Best Beards has added a Foaming Conditioning Cleanser to their product line-up, and rumor has it that they are currently collaborating with a local woodworker to develop a line of custom, artisan wood beard combs.
