Our Story

In 1986, Terry and Pat Brett were hired by the Kimberton Waldorf School to open a small farm store and dairy processing operation in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The venture included a 400 square foot retail space and a 1,000 square foot dairy processing facility on the biodynamic Seven Stars Farm. Nestled beside the milking barn, the store was created to connect the local community directly with farm-produced meats and dairy, including whole milk and yogurt. That same yogurt, Seven Stars Yogurt, remains a beloved staple across the country today.

The farm’s certification as Biodynamic by the Demeter Association naturally shaped the store’s focus on organic and natural foods, at a time when certified organic products were still rare. Initially operated by Pat and Terry, a farm intern, and a handful of volunteers, the store was only the second of its kind in the area. The community embraced it with enthusiasm, laying the foundation for what would become Kimberton Whole Foods.

Over the years, that small farm store has grown into a thriving family-owned and operated business with multiple locations throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Today, we are proud to be a multi-generational company recognized for our enduring commitment to sustainable agriculture, organic integrity, and local food systems.
