Smoked Turkey Instructions
The smoked turkey is fully cooked. It can be served hot or cold.
Oven | Preheat the oven to a moderate temperature, around 325°F. Place the turkey in a roasting pan, breast side up, and cover with foil. You can add some broth or water to the bottom of the pan to create steam. Cook for about 10 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Let the turkey rest for 15–20 minutes before carving.
Crockpot | Put the turkey in a crockpot, cover with water or broth, and cook on low for about 45 minutes.
Stove | Put a rack on top of a broiler tray filled with water, place the turkey on the rack, and cover with foil. Put the tray in the middle of a 350° F oven and cook for about 1.5–2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F.
To keep the turkey from drying out, avoid reheating it at too high a temperature or for too long. You can also use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
Turkey Roasting Guide
- Remove your fresh turkey out of refrigeration; bring to room temperature no longer than 1 hour.
- Season your turkey with salt and pepper, dried herbs, or use a butter rub under the skin.
- You may choose to roast your turkey at a lower temp for longer time or higher temp for shorter time.
- Using an internal thermometer is the safest way to determine if your turkey is done.
- According to the USDA a turkey must be cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F.
- In a 325 degree F oven, plan on about 15 minutes per pound for an un-stuffed bird. For stuffed turkeys, add another 15 minutes to the total cook time.
- After removing from the oven, allow your turkey to rest at least 20 minutes before carving.
