DIY Lemon Eucalyptus Bug Repellent

It’s the time of year when we need to begin considering protecting ourselves from the elements, especially pestering insects. The Center for Disease Control has listed Lemon Eucalyptus has an effective active ingredient for long-lasting protection against mosquitoes. Essential oils are powerful bug deterrents when diluted and applied correctly. Here’s an easy recipe with safe, natural ingredients that you can make at home!

What You’ll Need

  • Aura Cacia Lemon Eucalyptus* Essential Oil (or combination of Lemon and Eucalyptus oils)
  • Thayers Witch Hazel
  • Distilled or boiled Water
  • Aura Cacia Vegetable glycerin (optional)
  • 4 oz Spray Bottle (preferably glass)

Instructions

Fill a spray bottle 1/2 full with distilled or boiled water. Add witch hazel to fill almost to the top. Add 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin. Add 30 drops of essential oil, or to desired scent.

Shake well just before applying. Apply to clothes and exposed skin, being careful not to spray in eyes.

Other Essential Oil Repellents:

Mosquitos – citronella, lemon eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, catnip, basil, clove, thyme, lemongrass, geranium, lavender
Ticks – rose geranium, juniper, rosewood, thyme, grapefruit, oregano

*Lemon Eucalyptus is not recommended for children under 3 years old
