“What’s good for the farmer is good for us—it’s good for society.”
– Terry Brett, Founder & Owner
We believe the true value of being a community market is in making contributions to the lives of our neighbors and the larger local economy. At Kimberton Whole Foods it is important to us that our patrons understand the story behind the foods and products they purchase at our markets. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our Local Roots.
Baba’s Brew was founded in 2015 by loyal Kimberton Whole Foods customer, Olga Sorzano. Growing up in Soviet Russia in the 1980s, Olga began drinking kombucha with her great-grandmother (Baba) at a young age. She remembers how she loved that sweet fizzy drink, and her Baba is now the namesake of her company.
Bell & Evans was started in 1894, when Howard H. Bell and Carlton Evans started shipping fresh chicken by train from Amish Country, Pennsylvania to New York City. Today, headed by the Sechler family and based out of nearby Fredericksburg, PA, the company is a leading force in the transformation of the poultry industry.
Yellow Springs Farm is located just a few miles from our Kimberton store. When Al and Catherine Renzi purchased the farm in 2001, they made sure that the land would stay true to its heritage by securing an easement with French and Pickering Conservation Trust to protect it from development. The couple makes award-winning goat milk cheeses and other goat milk products, and they also run a native plant nursery on their property.
