Leg Up Farmers Market is a natural foods grocery store in York County which supports Leg up Farm and Able-Services. Leg Up Farm is a nonprofit therapy center for children with special needs. It is the only pediatric therapy facility in the country to offer physical, occupational, speech and aquatic therapy, behavioral health counseling, therapeutic horseback riding and a variety of educational and recreational opportunities under one roof. And, with Able-Services the Leg Up Farm Family offers a continuum of care by providing day program services for adults with special needs.

Leg Up Farmers Market is a full-service, natural foods grocery store, offering local and organic produce, deli, bakery, bulk foods, cheese, meat, seafood, dairy, frozen grocery, wellness, books, gift baskets, catering, and more! We are proud to offer their small-batch, locally-roasted, fair trade and organically sourced coffees in our stores.

How It All Began

Louie Castriota and his wife, Laurie, first conceived their vision for Leg Up Farm in 1997, as a way to merge their love of children and animals with their desire to give back to their community. Their vision began as a therapeutic riding center for children with special needs. Just six months later, their daughter was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, which they learned would cause cognitive and motor function delays.

The Castriotas quickly learned that state-funded early intervention programs only served children up to three years of age, which left huge gaps in availability and affordability of services for many children after their third birthday. They saw Leg Up Farm as a way to create something unique – a place for comprehensive service offerings, customization, and coordination of therapy for children with a wide variety of needs.

Since Leg Up Farm opened in 2010 and Able-Services opened in 2015, they have provided life-changing services to more than 1,600 individuals with special needs and their families. The Locally-Roasted Coffee

Leg Up’s local, small-batch roasted coffee is available in the bulk section at Kimberton Whole Foods Collegeville, Downingtown, Kimberton, and Ottsville,  You can also grab a cup of their drip coffee in The Collegeville Café. Plus, find bags of Leg Up Farm coffee in our Douglassville, Downingtown, Kimberton, and Malvern, and Ottsville stores. They buy fair trade, raw coffee beans and roast them right in their store in small four-pound batches. Their coffee is so unique and flavorful because it is often roasted within a week of the time you drink it.  

We are proud to support Leg-Up Market because their mission is simple: “Enriching people’s lives with natural food options that promote health and happiness.” Just like Kimberton Whole Foods, a large portion of their store is dedicated to foods that are grown and produced locally.
