Our friends at One Village Coffee know a thing or two about a delicious brew. In this recipe, originally featured on their blog, they use their coffee in a refreshing and sweet cold beverage that’s a true crowd-pleaser. As they explain on their blog, “Horchata is a milky drink made from either almonds, rice or nuts. In [this recipe] you’ll find rice, cinnamon, sugar, water and last, but not least, coffee.”
Recipe yields 6-8 servings.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 1 cup long grain rice
- 1 cinnamon stick (break up into a few pieces)
- 8 cups of water (split in 1/2)
- 3 tbsp whole coffee beans
- 1/2 cup sugar
PREPARATION
Mix together rice, cinnamon, 4 cups of water, and whole coffee beans in a blender until coarsely ground. Pour mixture into a bowl, add another 4 cups of water, and let soak for 4 hours.
Puree mixture a few ladles at a time until well blended. Strain mixture with cheese cloth and save the liquid. Pour the liquid into a pitcher and mix in the sugar.
Chill in refrigerator until you are ready to serve. Enjoy over ice!
